I was downloading music to my computer last week.
[My computer crashed a few months ago so I had to start over]
I didn’t realize how much I listened to Jay Z until I found myself downloading his music on Day 3.
[Yup it took me literally 3 days to download all my favorite Jay Z songs]
After I completed all my downloads of Jay music,
I kept my two favorite songs on repeat
Dear Summer and Ignorant Shit
Those two songs speak to me a lot
That’s when I realized he was a true lyricist
Jay Z brought back memories
[I’m talking about real childhood memories, Jay and I grew up together]
And it hit me on to why I was so hip to J Cole
J Cole reminds me so much of Jay when it comes to his lyrics
I love music that speak real life stories
Someone I can relate too
I haven’t even downloaded J Cole music yet,
But when I do I know my I-Tunes will be flooded with his music as well

LET’S GO BACK TO ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR
I was talking to some teenagers about rap music
And who they listen to a lot
I got artist like
Kanye West, Eminem, T.I., 2 Chainz, and Gucci Mane.
What got me about this conversation was the one kid that said Gucci Mane
Was his favorite because he sold dope and he was a true nigga
[His exact words]
And then the other guy who said T.I. was because he went to jail and he’s a true thug.
I laughed so hard because they have no idea
I told them my choices of Jay Z, J Cole, and now Kendrick Lamar.
I didn’t jump on the Kendrick Lamar train because everybody else did.
What drew me to Kendrick was because when he raps I swear it’s like I’m writing a poem.
I’m a true writer and I know that Kendrick raps from the heart of a poet
[That’s my opinion and how I feel]
What they don’t realize is that it’s not about who went to jail, sold the most drugs, or gangsters.
You have to find that artist that stands out from all that and can personally relate to you.
Let’s be real most artist rap about drugs, sex, weed, and money
But you want something different.
If these rappers speak to you and you feel connected to them on another level
By all means that’s understandable
I feel like connected to Jay, J Cole, and Kendrick.
They each have different connection with me that most artist don’t have
It’s more to music than the typical things, but what’s important
Is the “real” meaning behind rap music that speaks the truth
